Apple Tree, Theraphy and Snakes

23. okt 2009 05:47, Mikkel

Quick update while I drink my morning coffee and get ready for the trip to Phuket city for my physiotherapy treatment... I finally surrendered and went to the doctor as I should probably have done some time ago. Have been limping and not-walking for a month now with a serious hamstring issue.

First ultrasound treatment yesterday and I have 3 more in rapid succession over the coming days. Got a tip about a good clinic and walked in right of the street yesterday. Took around 1 minute before the nice nurse was handling my leg, 3 more minutes before the main dude arrived and spent 30 minutes probing and stretching and marking my leg with his ballpen. Then 2 more minutes and I was in ultrasound treatment for 45 minutes. All for 500 Batt (15 USD or so)

The doc felt competent and it was all very organized and comfortable.. but as much as I enjoy having people ohhh and ahh over me it's not nice when they do it because they are surprised at a medical level.
Sadly my mangled calf did draw a crowd and they did utter surprised noises and exchanged serious looks after feeling around on the inside of my left calf muscle, not really the way I want to feel special ;)

I have always had calf muscles more tightly wound than a Mudjahedin in a strip-school and apparently that and my short hamstrings are a bad cocktail, bad enough that my muscle has knottet up to create big knotty chunks of scar tissue of itself. According to the good doc and his assistents this is the cause of all the problems with my left leg, the muscle is messing up nerves and tendons while selfdestructing and it's now jammed a nerve that is making my heel feel tingly and my hamstring hurt even more than it should. It's still the same problem as desribed way way way back when: http://hellblade.smartlog.dk/guitar-hero---thai-torture-post124382

They said it would take 5-10 years off the leg with some real treatment.. if it works I'm going in for a full body ultrasound treatment ;)

The snakes... we saw a HUGE constrictor of some sort the other night while driving home. Was spread out across the road and I'd guess it to measure around 4 metres, to me thats BIG. Almost ran over it on the scooter, and when I got stopped and the camera whipped out it was slithering back into a cavity under the nearby bridge, I did not follow to investigate ;)

Yesterday I got my first King Cobra sigting, sitting quietly with it's head raised in that iconic Cobra posture amidst a pile of old coconut husks. Perhaps it was nesting there, plan is to go back with my camera and some solid boots to see if I can catch a real (semi!!) closeup of it.

Funny how the snakes come piling up right now, I have been here for over 2 years and never before seen any snakes worth mentioning.

Last but not least we played Apple Tree wednesday evening and this time we lost. Game went into overtime for the 3rd time of three... and it even went to the last black in that last overtime game before the match was settled. Great fun, very exiting but this time we didn't have the blind dumb luck of the previous two matches ;)

Next wednesday will be big. We are facing Charlie Bar (read all about Charlie Bar in other blog posts here.. it's where we vey often go and where Marianne celebrated her birthday) and it's the Paradise Bar owners birthday the same evening. It will be a night to remember, win or lose. Gotta run, cya.
